VOLUNTEER WITH AMA

Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer for Awakening Minds Art. Our vision is to create affirming, all-inclusive spaces where people have the confidence to develop into the best version of themselves.  Awakening Minds works towards building skills that help people not only feel success within our community, but to be successful throughout their lives. Through the visual arts, our staff, board of directors, and other volunteers work to make that happen!

Programs: Classes are led by trained instructors.

• Being an Aid - Occasionally, especially in the summer, instructors may need help with larger classes or if a student in a class needs individual attention for the entire class.

• Help prep for classes - Most of the programming help we need includes help around the studio. Organizing, prepping canvas, condensing bottles of paint, etc are time consuming tasks for instructors, and we appreciate the help!

• Community Events - We are often asked to be part of free, community events. Whether that is a parade, resource fair, craft fair, or an event just for fun, sometimes we need some extra hands to make those events happen! These events may include talking knowledgably about AMA and handing out marketing materials or doing an art project. Either way, we’d train you appropriately and ensure you have the support you need to complete the task successfully.

• Tri the Arts - A specific program that we’re always looking for volunteers is Tri the Arts Summer Camp! The majority of volunteers are teens who act as peer role models and participate alongside campers, but we also need adult supervisors. Experience with individuals with special needs (for adults) is not required, but helpful.

  • This four day camp is a collaboration between Awakening Minds Art (visual arts), Heartstring Melodies (musical arts), and Marathon Center for the Performing Arts (theatrical arts). The camp is designed for children and teens with special needs (SIBLINGS CAN JOIN, TOO!) and typically-developing peer volunteers who are ready to experience the extraordinary benefits of the arts in a fun, safe, and encouraging environment!
