In Memory Of

Shirley O’Brien

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Shirley O'Brien, our very first one-on-one student, on August 20, 2024. Shirley was more than just a student; she was a light in our studio, always bringing laughter and a bit of mischief wherever she went. Her time with us was filled with fun, silliness, and unforgettable moments.

"Shirley taught us the true meaning of love for others," reflects Sarah (Crisp) Ricker, founder of Awakening Minds Art. "I have countless memories of her that continue to bring a smile to my face. She wasn’t just a student; she (and Dot) was family."

Shirley O'Brien was the very first one-on-one student at Awakening Minds Art, and her impact on the organization is profound and lasting. She embodied the spirit of what Awakening Minds Art stands for—creativity, joy, and the deep connection that art can foster. Shirley's playful nature, her endless curiosity, and her willingness to embrace each moment left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Through her time with the instructors, Shirley taught us the true meaning of compassion and the joy of giving without expecting anything in return. Her legacy lives on in the heart of every program we offer, in the laughter that fills our studios, and in the countless students who continue to find their own voices through art. Shirley's journey with us was just the beginning, and we are forever grateful for the love and lessons she shared. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift the Awakening Minds Art community for years to come.

Shirley’s impact on our team and our mission was profound, and her legacy will forever be a part of Awakening Minds Art. In lieu of flowers, her family has kindly requested donations be made to Awakening Minds Art in Shirley’s honor. We are forever grateful for this gift and for the time we had with Shirley.
